Falling for the French Once Again...French Cancan.. That Is..

In the Paris of the 1880s, the impresario Danglard (Jean Gabin) decides to revive an old working-class dance, which he christens “French Cancan” to make it sound vaguely “foreign” and “naughty,” and to entice British and American tourists. He has troubles with his backers and their mistresses, culminating in a catastrophic catfight between an Egyptian belly dancer named La Belle Abbesse (Maria Félix) and a poor working girl-turned-cancan star Nini (Françoise Arnoul). Eventually, all the problems are solved, and French Cancan is triumphantly launched at the newly unveiled Moulin Rouge.

In 1955, French Cancan, produced at the Francoeur Studios in Saint–Maurice, had its Paris premiere in May of that year and was mostly successful as a fun musical with both the critics and the public. In later decades, the critics around the world hailed the magnitude of Jean Renoir’s achievement in employing and exalting the Cancan as a metaphor for all artistic endeavors, thus creating the "Cancan" style and fashion phenom.

Today when you hear French Cancan, believe it or not, most people think "haute couture" lingerie. I personally think, oooo la la! French Cancan is a love story of lace and frills. The French Cancan lingerie is a delicate marriage of classic chic and European sophistication. Facette USA [my lingerie company] has just begun to carry the French Cancan brand! I'm so exited. This collection evokes a style derived from the roaring twenties with a distintive retro female feel- present with a splash of seduction yet fashionably comfortable. If I were to truly "love" a brand it would be French Cancan. I am a roaring twenties fashion fan. I love the whole era of romantic, chic, classic style. If you share my interest, please by all means share, share share!! Take a look at some of our new items and let me know what you think.. Muahhh!!
